One of the enduring challenges we faced at Foursquare was quickly and simply communicating what a user might expect from a visit to a particular venue. Foursquare tips contain a wealth of information about suggested menu items, hints about how to have the best experience and insider secrets shared to Foursquare users like off-menu items, a specialty cocktail or the best table. In conjunction with the Tastes project we used the corpus of Tip text to generate 'snippeted' sections of representative tips for items that fulfilled the 'What you need to know' proposition. These Tip 'snippets', 'tippets', appear on search results, and on the Venue page highlighting personalised tastes for the user, and give you a quick sense of 'What you need to know'.
